Who Benefits from the New H1B Canada Work Permit Policy?
The new policy expedites processing for a specific group of applications, including:
- A limited number of applications exceeding the program’s cap but submitted simultaneously as the cap was reached on July 17th, 2023.
- Applications submitted through the Authorized Paid Representatives Portal on behalf of applicants and their families before the July 17th cap.
- Work permit applications for accompanying family members, including those who have already applied or plan to apply within the next year.
Additional Support for Families
The policy offers welcome news for families of H-1B holders. It waives study permit processing fees for minor children (17 and under) who initially applied for an H-1B work permit but now wish to pursue studies in Canada. While a physical study permit is not mandatory for minors, this fee waiver simplifies the process for these applicants.
