IRCC issued warning against Marriage fraud – can cause legal consequences to citizens if found guilty

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued a repeated warning to Canadian citizens and permanent residents about the marriage fraud system. The agency has made its statement more clearer this time. IRCC i using up all of its resources to make sure that the system of marriage in Canada is not being abused for the sake of gaining Permanent Residency or Citizenship to immigrant people.

Marriage Fraud in Canada as per the IRCC Norms

Marriage fraud like any other fraud is considered to be a method used to deceive the authorities or respective personnel into believing that 2 people are committed to life and are ready to marry or already been married. This fraudulent method is also known as a “marriage of convenience” in Canada.

This happens when a Canadian citizen is willing to let a foreign national person be their spouse just for the purpose of getting PR or Citizenship in Canada. Later on they get separated or divorced or live separately but get to keep the citizenship or PR with them.

Such fake and sham arrangements exploited using the laws for marriage and relationship in Canada are considered fake and are considered as a crime in Canada. Individual responsible for such activities whether they are a foreign national or citizen, both are considered to be crime doers.

How does the Canadian Government resisting the Marriage frauds

Canadian government which manages it’s immigration process under the Ministry of IRCC has made is abundantly clear that the marriage frauds or marriage of convenience is a criminal activity and shall be resisted with utmost strictness to avoid the exploitation.

The recent announcement about this is to ensure that, the foreign national who are trying to get married to Canadian citizen, if tried to apply for a citizenship, will be scrutinised with tight norms and critic peer reviews.

The IRCC has highlighted that that its immigration officers are well-trained to detect false marriages. Through in-depth reviews of documents, interviews, and background checks, officers can identify inconsistencies and expose fraudulent applications. They will check the history of relationship of both of these people involved, digital media history, social media history and if and only if they find it believable that the two persons involved are really in a relationship and was married in due time, only then their application for a citizenship shall be approved and give Citizenship.

IRCC has also mentioned that the citizen or foreign nationals whoa re engaged in such scams will face fines and might get imprisonment. The citizens who are found guiltily will definitely have to pay a big chunk o fine along with possible jail time. The foreign national who are found guilty will get a ban to enter Canada – Temporary banishment of minimum 5 years. The severity of the situation might even give the foreign national a life time ban to enter Canada in any other means, even under a tourist visa or a visitor visa.
