International students must be studying full-time if they want to work part-time off campus

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has rolled out new statements about the law changes and upgrades regarding the part-time job working for international students.

Led by the Honourable Minister for IRCC, Marc Miller addressed and stated that the new changes are effective by mid November of 2024.

Canada has been controlling the educational sector since the price hike, job crisis and housing issues risen up at the end of 2023. Since then, Canada has tightened the market by filtering out loopholes in laws related to education and exploitation taking place in the sector.

Recent changes to invoke spousal privileges for one year pg diploma students up until the most latest update which revoked the SDS visa system for students from India, China and Pakistan, canada has made it clear that no students shall be exploited or suffer in Canada nor any institution can take advantage of them.

As per the new ruling, an international student studying in Canada should be enrolled under a Designated Learning Institute and should be studying a full-time course.

The nature of course can be post secondary academic or vocational or professional training programs, but it should be full-time. Many students are doing part-time courses or distant courses. Such students are not eligible to work part-time unless they have a valid work visa already approved.

It is also essential that the course taken by the students should be at least six months in duration and should end up receiving a degree or diploma certificate. Courses offered by certain institutions or online portals which provide a certificate of participation or certificate of completion is not enough.
