Canada Postal Strike: Canadians experiencing for Mail and Parcel Delays
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) had announced a nationwide strike which began on Friday, November 15, at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time. The strike brought Canada Post’s operations to a complete halt, disrupting mail and parcel services for millions of Canadians and businesses. More than fifty thousand (50000) employees have entered to participate in the strike in response to the unresolved demands an issues with the negotiations going on with Crown Corporation.
What is a Crown Corporation
A Crown corporation is a government-owned entity which operate just like a Government owned company rather than being a direct ministry or wing under ministry. This makes sure that the entity is handled by direct political control but at the same time enjoys the benefits of a private company especially being autonomous in nature.
The sole purpose of making such a strategic government controlled company is to make the institution more flexible, take actions more swiftly and faster without the interruptions from a long list of hierarchical bureaucracy. Crown corporations exist at both federal and provincial levels in Canada and are responsible for providing essential services or managing critical industries that upholds the daily essential needs of every residents in Canada.
For example, Some other government controlled Crown corporations apart from the Canada Post are CBC/Radio-Canada, VIA Rail. They have a board, with many directors who are appointed as per the qualifications rather than elected representatives, who can make sure to run the bureaucracy efficiently and at the same time making sure the self sustainable and autonomous nature of the institute guarantees more efficient service to the public rather than making profit.
Expected scenarios to happen during the strike
The strike is expected to cause significant delays in the logistic sectors which will include long delays in delivering parcels and mails. While the strike goes on, no mail or parcels will be processed or delivered but Canad Post has ensured the parcels and mails will be protected until the strikes are over.
Most of the post offices will be closed or works with minimum employees which will definitely won’t allow residents and citizens or businesses to send and receive items. Items already in transit will reach the depots and stand stagnated there until the strike is over.
Even if the strike is over, the items and deliveries accumulated will create havoc and chaos, and are only be expected to deliver or reach the destination with further delay.
